About

Fancy Pants: A Celebration of Style 1920 - 1945 was an exciting exhibition at Worcester City Museum and Art Gallery that ran from Saturday 12th July to Saturday 13th September 2014.

The exhibition was jointly curated by Clare Bridge, owner of Second Hand Rose and Jo Bourke (Jo Waterhouse) co-authors of Wearable Vintage Fashion, experienced vintage collectors, knowledgeable enthusiasts and sellers.

The curators researched the carefully preserved County clothing archive housed at County Museum, Hartlebury and discovered what Worcester wore from 1920 - 1945. Most of the collection had been donated by local people so they uncovered a previously unseen social history through fashion of local people.

The exhibition showcased fabulous women's fashion and accessories from the 1920s, divine deco of the 1930s and the stylish, practical wartime wardrobe of the 1940s.

The family friendly exhibition took place in the prestigious Summer slot from and there were trails and dressing up for younger visitors, workshops and craft drop ins sessions throughout the duration, as well as the displays of breathtaking dresses for the vintage fashion connoisseur.

This blog presented a look behind the scenes at some of the exquisite details uncovered from researching the archives as well as related news and items of interest and background on the fashion history of the eras covered.
